Spotlight: Der Rosenkavalier
Opening today, Chicago City Opera's Der Rosenkavalier is a dense melodrama. The piece has been trimmed and condensed into a light, portable show that will be presented at two interesting, local venues. A word of advice: this comedy has a large cast of characters and is presented in German with English subtitles. If this piece catches your eye, I'd recommend familiarizing yourself with the plot (note some scenes have been cut) before showtime so you can dive right in and enjoy the complex, well-executed music and cast of characters.
